Adapting Citizens' Panels for Under-Resourced Rural Settings: A Community-Based Participatory Approach to Identify Feasible Health Policy
UC Merced faculty, Irene yen and PhD alumna Dr. Kesia Garibay explore how researchers adapted citizens’ panels to engage rural, predominantly Latino communities in identifying and discussing feasible public health policies. Working with local promotoras and providing Spanish-language, culturally relevant materials, participants identified housing insecurity and behavioral health services as key priorities and expressed support for policies addressing legal housing assistance and mental health access.
