We are delighted to announce Professor Susana Ramirez's 2017 Early Career Award from the Public Health Education and Health Promotion Section of the American Public Health Association's annual meeting on November 7th in Atlanta. The Early Career Award honors a scholar who has made outstanding contributions to the practice and profession of public health promotion in the first 10 years after the Ph.D. and who shows promise for continued development. Dr. Ramirez was nominated on behalf of the association’s Health Communication Working Group, in particular recognition of her contributions to the field of Health Communication. The selection committee judges the contribution and promise of early career scholars based on the strength of accomplishments and tangible contributions that have elevated the field, including its originality, theoretical foundation, methodological rigor, and impact. 
Ramirez, who received a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Public Health from Harvard University, uses mixed methods to understand the multiple levels of communication influence on health and to reduce health disparities among Latino populations.
