Bio: 
Kasem is a first year Ph.D student of the department of Public Health. He is currently working with Dr. Andrea Joyce on Vector-borne disease related projects. Kasem is a Pakistani American who was born in West Sacramento. He received his B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from UCLA in 2019. He previously worked as a research assistant at FESS Labs alongside Daniel M.T. Fessler PHD and Grether Labs alongside Greg Grether Ph.D. at UCLA. Kasem also has healthcare experience while volunteering at Ronald Reagan Medical Center, at the Pediatric Oncology Department at UC Davis Medical Center, and at the Pathology Department at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. While at UCLA, Kasem was a member of the Food Drive initiative, the Hunger Project, Muslim Student Association, and Team HBV.
