Research Opportunities

We encourage and support our undergraduates to get involved with research - within the department, at the university, or in the community! By working with Public Health experts, students can be an active participant in impacting the health of their communities. If you are interested in getting involved, please visit the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Center. Our faculty are also a great resource for undergraduates and may have ongoing research projects with positions available.
 

Internship Opportunities

Central Valley

  • Central Valley Health Policy Institute Research Internship
    Description: Based in CSU Fresno, the CVHPI internship is unpaid, part-time (10-15 hour per week) commitment available to undergraduate and graduate students. The internship is hybrid (some in-person, some remote), although students will be expected to come into the office a few times throughout the semester. Interns participate in a variety of research activities including literature reviews, managing databases, and performing data analysis.
    Due Date: the last Friday of July (Fall internship), the last Friday of November (Spring internship), the last Friday of April (Summer internship)

  • Health Career Connection
    Description: Full-time, paid research internship lasting approximately 10 weeks between May and August for undergraduates. Students are placed and work in health departments, hospitals, and community-based organizations to gain valuable experience. Northern CA, southern CA, and Coachella Valley regions are available as well.
    Due Date: December 11

California

  • UCLA Public Health Scholars Training Program
    Description: Full-time, paid 8-week internship for undergraduates (who have completed at least two years) or recent graduates. Students are matched and work with local community partners, gain Public Health knowledge through structured programming, and participate in a research poster showcase at the CDC in Atlanta, Georgia.
    Due Date: January 31

  • CA Department of Public Health Volunteer Internships
    Description: Part-time, 3 to 4 month volunteer internships with placement in county departments. Placement is based on academic and professional goals. Applications reviewed monthly.
    Due Date: Rolling admission

  • Stanford Population Health Summer Research Program
    Description: Paid research and internship opportunity for undergraduate students from underrepresented and historically excluded groups. No recommendation letters or transcripts necessary to apply!
    Due Date: January 12

  • California Department of Health Care Services Student Internship Program
    Description: The DHCS Student Internship Program is an unpaid, volunteer opportunity for undergraduate and graduate level students who are able to make a semester, quarter or summer commitment. DHCS internships provide opportunities to work in public service and focus on issues of significance to Medi-Cal beneficiaries, providers, health plans, and state government.

  • Sustainability Undergraduate Research in Geoscience and Engineering Program
    Description: The Surge program is a eight week paid opportunity which has students live and work at Stanford University. Students are paired with a research mentor to gain work and research experience in geoscience and engineering. They participate in academic workshops, coding courses, community building activities, and more.
    Due Date: Feb 1

  • Environmental Policy Internships in California
    Description: The EPIC program is a collection of policy internships in coordination with the Stanford Woods Institute which introduce environmental policy work. These paid summer internships are full-time for either ten or twelve weeks. Interns are assigned a Stanford Academic mentor, work with decision makers, and help solve sustainability challenges.

  • Short Term Educational Experience for Research (STEER) in Environmental Health Sciences
    Description: The STEER program at the UC Berkeley Center for Occupational and Environmental Health is a nine-week, paid summer internship. Students participate in environmental health research, workshops, lectures, and occupational health field trips.
